Decorative art and the Artist by Vas Paris

The buyers of decorative art in the USA are women. What do men buy for the decoration? Mostly they buy sports paraphernalia for their basements. For the artist it means that one must cater to women if one sells in the decorative market.

Women are conservative in their taste and they buy “antique” or “antique” look alike. They clutter their habitats with “cozy” stuff.  That means the artist will never have artistic freedom while catering to this segment of the market. One can create a line of derivative images but one will never be able to sell socially challenging images. Social challenge is against female consumer psycology if it is not part of women rights movement.
